The Palm Island in Dubai is one of the true wonders of the modern world. A man-made island shaped like a huge palm tree in the middle of the sea, seemingly constructed out of thin air, the Palm Island Jumeirah is one of the most breathtaking sights in the world, a true miracle of modern science and engineering, and a testament to the powers of ambition and dreams.
The Palm Island was constructed by a Dubai property developer, Nakheel Properties, with the aid of Belgian and Dutch experts in reclaiming land from the sea. There are three such artificial islands: Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, and Palm Deira.
At the moment, the Palm Jumeirah is the only completed island. The other two (Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira) are still undergoing completion and are expected to get finished in the next 2-5 years.
The three Palm Islands will be the home of several kilometers of beaches, luxury resorts, high end restaurants and shopping boutiques, and expensive villas and houses. Some of the world’s richest, most influential people have already booked their houses on the completed Palm Jumeirah. Among your neighbors in this island, you may very well find the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, or James Cameroon. This is truly some exclusive company.
The keyword for the Palm Islands is “grandeur”. With the completion of the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai showed the world that if it can be dreamed, it can also be created. Who would’ve believed that one could create an island out in the sea, and that too one shaped like a palm tree? The Palm Jumeirah is just the first of the islands and is also the smallest. The scale and size of the other two (Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira) will blast even the Palm Jumeirah out of the water.
The Palm Jumeirah itself consists of 17 fronds (the various “branches” of the palm tree island) and has a coastline of 78 kilometers. It will house over 4,000 residences, bookings for which have already been sold out. The Atlantis, one of the world’s largest and most luxurious resorts, is located at the tip of the top crescent.
